Julian,
Thanks again. I'll get WinDump and see if I can
make sense out of my problem.

So you can open a file?
Such as from http://www.ethereal.com/sample/
And if you try to capture, you get a
reasonable error message saying WinPcap is not installed? That's an improvement, since previously these
operations caused bizarre behaviour on your system. Can you say what you did
to get to this happy state, and what version of Ethereal you're now
using?

installed in the wrong folder or could the path be incorrect?
I never had this sort of problem with
WinPcap, so have never had to investigate it. I just did a default
installation (after uninstalling any previous version) and it worked.
Try WinDump. This is always a good idea
if you suspect a WinPcap problem, or need to distinguish between a WinPcap
problem and an Ethereal problem. You can get WinDump from
http://windump.polito.it/
If
WinDump has the same problem as Ethereal, then it's a WinPcap problem. Go to
http://winpcap.polito.it/contact.htm If WinDump works but Ethereal doesn't, it's an Ethereal problem.
Continue with this thread . . .
Julian.
