I think you will find there is a libsnmp.so.somethingorother - probably in
/usr/local/lib or /usr/lib.
Try adding libsnmp.so.0 as a symlink in the same directory and then running
ldconfig
Some broken versions of the ucd-snmp install didn't create this link.
Or alternatively, get the current version of net-snmp - the new name for
ucd-snmp - from http://sourceforge.net/projects/net-snmp and compile/install
it then "make clean;make" ethereal.

What does it do instead of working? Does it still fail to find the SNMP
library, or does it fail in some other fashion?
