FWIW I'd (strongly) disagree with the concept that picking a display filter
from the history should cause it to automatically apply.  I regularly need to
switch back-and-forth between filters (or between a filter and no filter)
*while changing the (picked-from-history) filter*.  (And, yes, it's also common
that this filtering takes a while so I'd rather not wait for the filter to
apply before changing it.)

Maybe some UI guru can make it more obvious that the filter isn't applied but
for me the fact that the Apply button has become active is good enough. 
(Interestingly the Apply button is not present in the Qt UI so with that UI
there really is no hint that the filter is not applied.)
