      Ethereal shows that host has received the

application ( udp based) doesn't receive the packets.
So I was wondering wheteher tcp/ip stack is discarding
the packets. This is why, I wanted to know if there is
any method, using which one can see the discarded
packets.
If you mean "can Ethereal tell you which of the packets it captured were dropped by the networking stack?", the answer is "no" - it connects to the networking code below the network or transport layer.
