Thanx for the quick response!
If i do it as described below, i get
another error!
1.) Error reading from pipe: Bad
address
2.) As no data was captured, closing
the temporary capture file

If that is the -i problem this should work:
$ mkfifo pcap_fifo
$ ethereal -i pcap_fifo -n -k -S -l -p &
$ ssh user@machine "/usr/local/sbin/tcpdump -i qfe1 -xX -w-"
>> pcap_fifo
