It all depends on your physical setup. If you all share the same physical
connection (coax cable) then you should see all packets (if in promiscious
mode). Otherwise if you have a star pattern wiring to a hub (UTP) it depends if
you have a simple "normal" hub or an intelligent "switching" hub that doesn't
broadcast packets to all the wires plugged in.

Subject: [Ethereal-users] Ethereal capture not taking place
Hi all ,
Etehereal is capturing packets from my machine to others when it is
installed on my machine .
It does not capture from say the neighbouring machine to others ,even
though we are on the same ethernet . What could be the problem ?
A few of the guys say that this could be because we are not on the
same "segment" of the ehernet , though I am not in the same lab.....
