No - I mean BOTH directions - this is a tap into a full duplex line. 
The tap "logic" looks something like this:

switch port ------X---------------------------->server
               \<------\ ------------------X-------/
                          \_________/______ tap RJ-45
  other tap RJ-45__________/

and I have two PCMCIA cards plugged into the two RJ-45-s of the 
tap, each one - supposedly - monitoring the traffic in one or the 
other of the directions (see www.shomiti.com for better drawing).
