I need to hide away for awhile, in shame :-) ... it was a TYPO!!! - 
but wouldn't have discovered it, if not for your advice about trying 
tcpdump - while typing the tcpdump command line I realized that 
the "b" IP address I was trying to use in the ethereal filter was NOT 
of the real "b" machine, but - instead - a non-existant (i.e. not 
assigned) IP address ... no wonder there was NO TRAFFIC ;-((

Thx a lot - would've taken me a while, as I am - still - very trustful in 
my typing skills ;-> ... I wonder now how much an IP "spell-
checker" would be worth developing ;-),
