Hi again ...

Here Ethereal is being linked angainst zlib (the '-lz' option above).
Ok ... shared lib problem ... solved it (figured it would be zlib, tried
over and over, but reboot fixed the prob) ... thanx

       --gilbert

Next problem ... tried to run after compile and even tried some diff
compilations, but running the prog with 'ethereal -i eth0 -k' (or other dev)
gives a popup saying :

The capture session could not be initiated (/dev/bpf0: No such file or
directory). Please check permissions and proper interface

Ok, don't have a bpf0/1, but according to different info and readme's
tcpdump should do it (right?) creating the bpf dev's doesnt work (also
according to trying and docu). Starting just 'ethereal' or 'ethereal -i
eth0' gives :

There are no network interfaces that can be opened. Please check (blablabla)
...

Ok ... tested this on two diff systems :

Suse linux 6.0 / p75 with 3com 10mb nic / kernel 2.2.5 / running as root
Suse linux 6.1 / p233 with xircom 10mb nic / kernel 2.2.13 / running as root

Where to search for my problem (except installing redhat/slackware/6.2 or
3???). Installing free/open bsd just for 1 program is a little overkill (is
it?)

Greetz,
