I had this very same problem with 0.7.7 so I simply added 
--enable-zlib=no to the ./configure

The version is 1.0.2 (is this an incompatible version?)

In my case libz.so.1.0.2
Still wondering if this is incompatible version.... If so would 
upgrading get rid of the error message? :)
