Check what version of binutils you are running.
I am too lazy to compile my own versions of gcc these days,
so I get the rpm's compiled by H.J. Lu from:
ftp://ftp.varesearch.com/pub/support/hjl/

Upgrade your version of binutils, gcc, libstdc++, etc. as
appropriate...he has all that good stuff.
