So far MATE uses the tap only to prime the tree uing a filter string
and then to fetch data from the tree.

As far as for MATE goes I do not think it should remain a plugin for
long. There would be  many advantages in getting it in epan. Like
making its data styructures accessible to an UI module.

As it becomes stable I think it would be worth moving it to epan which
I think is where it belongs.

Lujis
