No, tcpdump experience or knowledge is not necessary. Of course the same 
concepts apply, (capture, filtering, decodes, etc) but it's generally 
easier for most people to understand with a graphical format. Start right 
in with Wireshark and go from there.

There are, of course quite a bit written on using ethereal, the direct 
predecessor of Wireshark - check the website for more information.

Hi 

I have installed Wireshark on Windows XP, so to understand Wireshark do i 
have to understand tcpdump first and then Wireshark next
Are there online docs for tcpdump tutorials or HowTo since i could not 
locate one.
