Yes, in the 1.8.x versions the capture filter has migrated to being an item on
each network device. Double click on a device and you'll get a new window
which includes a place for the capture filter.

Yes, this was put back to avoid confusion for the common case where people are
only capturing on one interface (or are using the same capture filter on all
interfaces).

This bug is for saving the capture filter.
Work has been done in the trunk recently for automatically selecting an
interface; I think it'll automatically select the interface if you have only
one or if you have chosen a default interface (in Preferences).
