Comment # 2 on bug 7837 from 
uninstalling and renaming c:\program files\wireshark to 'wireshark_old' then
re-installing 1.8.5 did not make the channel selection available.

However, a colleague installed the same software and did not have the same
problem.

My pc is dell 5400 with XP.  His is 5500 with XP.

The older version 1.2.9 on my pc does not have the problem, and I can
re-install it without deleting the wireshark folder.

I would like to make use of features and enhancements in the newer versions of
Wireshark but cannot for now.

If this is a configuration issue, could you please enlighten me.
