I have finished this exercise about one and half year ago in the official
Debian packages. ;-)

If we take the approach of maintaining the /debian directory with the source I
suggest copying the official Debian package's /debian dir and changing the
lib...[0-9]* package names to lib...X or lib...W to avoid collisions with
official package names.
I also suggest keeping the library versions at 0.0.0 in trunk to avoid
collisions in library versions.

Those would help in migration between Debian's and Wireshark's packages.

BTW it would be nice to collect a few reasons why keeping the /debian dir seems
to be the better idea. Just for the record. :-)

I could not find the group, but I would happily join. :-(
