I have wondered a couple of times about maintaining an Ubuntu PPA for
wireshark-stable (and maybe wireshark-trunk), but have never had time to
investigate.

I am willing to aid in the Ubuntu-specific portion of that task, although I
will likely need help with the packaging.

I don't have any particular problem with removing the debian directory, but we
have a broader question, as the same logic could apply to the packaging/rpm/
directory.

Does it make sense for Wireshark to own the rpm and debian configurations? Do
we have someone willing to maintain them?
