Sorry, I missed this response.

Basically the problem is that the idea of disabling protocols is really meant
to be used by users but, for this and another dissector, we are also using it
to disable dissectors by default (to avoid performance penalties for the whole
world).  In other words we shouldn't be doing it this way but so far we don't
have a Better way and I didn't think it was worth waiting for a Better way
before checking in this dissector.
