What happens if you do

   tcpdump -s0 -i bond0 -w <some file name>

If that also causes the entire machine to hang, this is almost certainly a
Linux kernel bug.  (Even if it *doesn't*, it's probably a Linux kernel bug -
hanging the entire machine is difficult for user-mode code to do.)
