Preamble: I'm looking at the pcap-side of the issue.

The 'new DLT'  solution and the 'modified DLT' one are mutually exclusive from
a libpcap point of view. So the only way to make the wireshark patch useful is
to modify libpcap accordingly (the 'modified DLT' path). But this is
sub-optimal and I'm a bit concerned about it...
