Some of the new wireless cards are starting to include support for the
Independent Hardware Vendor (IHV) or Independent Software Vendor (ISV)
framework that is available in Windows Vista (NDIS 6) and is planning to be
back-ported to NDIS 5 in XPSP2 -- at least to some degree. Basically, this will
give Ethereal easy access to 802.11 frames and allow for promisc mode to be
enabled on some of the intel cards (ref 1).

I'd really like to see support for this framework included in Wireshark. It is
already available in AirMagnet, which is a shame because Wireshark is clearly
the superior product.

Microsoft has released a decent amount of documentation already (ref 2, 3). It
took only a few hours to have something working, but I have no idea on how to
implement into the wireshark framework.

Thanks,
Steve
