I actually found a "decent" workaround to this issue (at least for my
situation).  If you issue the command "sudo ifconfig wlt1 down" before starting
wireshark, then the system doesn't know that the interface is even available -
and everything works as it should.

That means, however, that you can't capture on that interface (which I don't
ever do, anyway)
