Probably you are right - it seems reasonable to enable the feature by default.

Yes, the patch uses WinPcap remote functionality only - it is the library that
is already used by Wireshark and works good in both Windows and Linux, while
rpcap.sourceforge.net project seems to be not maintained anymore.
