I was using a windows machine which is now
getting rebuilt into a FC4 machine.
I had 2 interfaces one for each switch and those interfaces had multiple vlans
of information going to them.
This is done by running the following on
the switch
switchport
switchport capture
switchport capture allowed vlan 184-191
On the machine side was running with:
dumpcap -i 5 -w capture_`date
+%m%d%Y`.pcap -b filesize:20000 > /dev/null &
So this should have captured all traffic going
through those vlans both ways.

Gigabit card and captures
Ethereal/Wireshark just shows the packets that the underlying capture
engine provides, so usually libpcap/WinPcap.
What are you using to sniff the traffic between the two machines? Hub/switch?

[Ethereal-users] Gigabit card and captures
I have noticed the same behavior with my
gigabit nic card. It should be capturing both directions with the line I
have in, but I only see one-way traffic.
If anyone has something for us to try that
would be great,
Javier

Gigabit card and captures
HI,
While capturing messages from two devices
working at 10Mbps, the internal Gigabit card of my laptop only captures
messages in one direction.
If I change the card properties to 10Mbps
I do not receive any messages at all. Moreover If I make the capture with my
desktop PC the frames are captured in both directions.
Any suggestion?
Thanks
Pablo
