Tim,

please check if you have a copy of packet.dll in c:\windows\system32 (on XP/2003) or c:\winnt\system32 (on win2000), look for the version of the file (right click on it, version tab), and then delete the file.  After that, reinstall WinPcap. Let me know the version of packet.dll, and if this solves your problem.

Hope it helps
GV

Subject: [Ethereal-users] Winpcap install fails

I tried installing Wire Shark (now that really hurt) 0.99.1 but a message displayed stating the winpcap was already present so the install had been aborted. I know winpcap is uninstalled, I have scrubbed the registry and deleted all files with winpcap in the name. Still no joy, even using the stand-alone winpcap executable a message is returned stating it’s already there. Does anyone have any suggestions for a next step?

Many thanks

Tim
