unreassembled packet means that the
packet was short, i.e.   while dissecting the packet  ehtereal ran out
of bytes in the packet due to the pdu being longer than could fit in
the actual packet itself  and packet reassembly was not enabled.
many pdu's span several IP fragments or TCP segments and these "short"
packets would be indicated in this way if reassembly is not enabled.

packet reassembly consumes a lot of memory so it may be disabled by default.



(ethereal supports reassembly if IP packets  and also of TCP semgents
if you ewnable this in the preferences diualog for IP and TCP)
