I've seen this error before when I tried to compile ethereal on my machine
The solution is to modify glib to fail when it tries to allocate -1 bytes.
a simple if(size==-1) return helped in my case.

this was glib 1.2 on MacOS X 10.4.6 (It was working ok in earlier versions of MacOS X)

I read somewhere that 0.9.6 would be able to solve this problem. My problem is that I cannot find any place to download that version
