Your hub is probably really a switch. From wiki.ethereal.com:

NH1005 V2 - Charles Dunkirk

I was not able to get a new hub matching this version to work for passive sniffing. -- Ryan Sommers

I cannot sniff this 'hub' either. After googling around, I am fairly sure this is a rebadged switch. This hub used to be under 'REAL HUBS' so I moved it down here and kept the comments and attributions -- Rick Hull

I want to capture 3rd party traffic. I have done this before on a different system but I am having trouble now.

I connected a hub inline with the traffic and tapped off of the hub for the capture as follows:

1) I bought a Linksys Network Hub (model no NH1005,V2)
2) I connected port 1 to my cable modem
3) I connected port 2 to my router
4) I connected port 3 to my computer running Ethereal 0.10.12
5) I made sure a check mark is on Promiscuous mode

When I look at the trace all I see is broadcasts.
