You're probably missing *something*, given that Ethereal uses the same code for capturing that tcpdump/WinDump does (libpcap/WinPcap), which includes the code that does filter expression compilation and filtering.
What error does it report when you try to use "src net" or "dst net", and what filter expression are you typing into the filter dialog box?
