probably you have not only G.711 a-law voice frames but comfort noise
frames mixed (or other payload types); Ethereal recognizes them but it
can not save them as audio (I understand that's your problem: you
attempt to save audio but you get the unsupported codec message). Just
filter out payload types other than 8 (A-law) with rtp.p_type==8, and
save only as AU audio file this payload type.

about ITU-T. I am capturing the traffic with a NAM2 blade on a Cisco
6500 and then downloading/importing into Ethereal v0.10.13.
