Hi

For what it's worth, I am experiencing the same crash and error as David regardless of whether I use GTK1 or GTK2.  0.10.7 also works fine for me and so I reverted to that on my ME notebook.

The new version 10.8 crashes on startup on Windows ME.
There is an error message about msvcrt.dll
My msvcrt.dll in c:\windows\system is version 6.1.8637.0

10.7 worked fine on this machine
