Does MacOS use purely BSD rc scripts or can you mix in SysV style ones as well? /etc/rc3.d/S99chown4ethereal
It's a BSD, and has very much BSDish rc scripts - no SV-style rc*.d directories. (You could modify the rc files to support them, I guess, but, as per my mail, the rc scripts might get overwritten by Software Update.)
The way to do scripts to start and stop particular services, etc. would be through startup items.
