If you disable a protocol in Ethereal and press the Save buttorn the settings will be written to the disabled_protos
file in the Ethereal configuration directory (chose menu item About Ethereal... and check the Folders tab).
 
Tethereal will also read the disabled_protos file. So either you make manual changes in the file or use Ethereal to
disable the protocols.
