No, it shouldn't:

    % sw_vers
    ProductName:    Mac OS X
    ProductVersion: 10.3.4
    BuildVersion:   7H63
    % run ethereal
    csh: run: Command not found.

If they literally said you should enter "run ethereal", that's wrong.

If they said you should run Ethereal, that's right, but you do it by
typing just "ethereal" - *if* Ethereal's been installed in a directory in
your command search path; I don't know where Fink installs it.

Note, however, that you have to have X11 installed and running; Ethereal
doesn't use the native OS X GUI, it uses X11 and the GTK+ X11 toolkit.

Note also that, if you have the Apple X11 for Panther installed, you can
add it to the "Applications" menu for X11, which would let you launch it
from the X11 menu or from the X11 Dock entry.
