I don't mean to be harsh - but if this program is too complex then I'm
afraid you won't understand what it will tell you is wrong. If you don't
understand what a carburetor is then how will you know what to do if
your car diagnostic system tells you that the carburetor is faulty?

First step (IE your problem)
a) If you can browse other external web sites but not the one you are
after then chances are your PC and firewall aren't the problem and it's
a remote issue - beyond your control.

b) if you can't browse anywhere outside your net then check that your
IP address and subnet mask is correct, check that your gateway address
is correct and that your DNS is correct

Step two
Get some skills
There are tutorials out there on the basic use of ethereal - but the
require some basic knowledge of networking. I think that learning
networking via learning ethereal is a great combination - but some prior
knowledge is necessary.

I suggest you consider either the CompTia network+ course or CCNA

Sorry - I don't mean to criticize, but there is no way that someone
without background network knowledge can use ethereal, or any other
network diagnostic tool.

For ethereal you could start here
http://www.virtualciscolab.com/training/ethereal/ethereal800_viewlet.html
There's theFAQ http://www.ethereal.com/faq.html

For networking - you might prefer the introductory courses mentioned or
turn to a book - one free to download (which may be too in depth for
you) is this TCP/IP Tutorial and Technical Overview

Hi,

I would like to use ethereal to see why a network client software I'm
using is unable to reach an http:80 server outside of the LAN.
But this tool is a bit too complex for a non network specialist like
me!
Can anyone help me?

Just for information I have a gateway/firewall but no proxy here.

Thanks.

razor.
