What you did wrong was, apparently, assuming that the source wouldn't be
in a file named "ethereal-0.9.15.tar.bz2" or "ethereal-0.9.15.tar.gz".

We don't keep the individual files in there; we have bzip2'ed and
gzipped tarballs of the source.
