Hello,
I have got a small wireless LAN, for experimental purposes. The architecture of tha lan is as follows:
Machine: base-station has got a NAT installed, which is also connected to the access point. It has got 2 interfaces.
eth1: goes to the the outside world. to the wired net.
eth2: is the wireless card.
There are a couple of machines which are also connected wireless.
OK.
I had put the wireless interface on base-station into promiscous mode and i was sniffing some traffic..and studying....
All of a sudden, coz of power fluctations, the machine was rebooted.
After that, when i am again trying to put the interface i the promiscous mode and trying to sniff....i am not getting any packets.
The command to put eth2 in prominiscous mode is:
echo 'Mode:y' > /proc/driver/aironet/eth2/Config
If i do:
[vaidehi@base-station]$ ifconfig eth2
eth2 Link encap:UNSPEC HWaddr 00-07-0E-B9-91-8A-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00
inet addr:10.10.1.4 Bcast:10.10.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:695 errors:103980 dropped:0 overruns:95619 frame:8361
TX packets:8 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:100
Interrupt:11 Base address:0x100
I am getting 103980 error packets. Though the hardware address can be seen to be in promiscous mode...
Then y cant i sniff even a single packet????
I could sniif all the packets properly, b4 the machine rebooted. Pl help
