Well, my first bit of input is that errors in "config.log" are not, in
and of themselves, indications that there's a problem.  "config.log" is
a log of the output of the stuff done by the configure script; some of
the tests it does involve attempting to compile a program and see
whether the attempt succeeds - if the attempt succeeds, it means that
the configure script should configure things to be built in one way,
and, if the attempt fails, the configure script should configure things
to be built in some other way.

I.e., unless the actual configuration process failed, or if the build
process failed, there's no reason, other than curiosity, to check
"config.log".
