This is Takanori Yamauchi from Japan.
Now, we are evaluating Network management System. But Network management System
does not work well especially about TRAPS. So we are trying to analyze SNMP
TRAPS
with "ethereal".
I downloaded ethereal version 0.8.20 from web site and am trying to see SNMP
messages, especially about TRAPS. And I got the attached log file. Please see
the
log file.

As we have little knowledge about SNMP, we could not
understand well about the log file. That is, in the
log file, there are
30(SEQUENCE (OF)?)----this is circled with red line in attached bmp file.
82(I don't know what it is)---this is circled with blue line in attached
bmp file.
00(I don't know what it is)---this is circled with green line in attached
bmp file.
C8(Length?)---this is circled with light blue line in attached bmp file.
02(the part of "version=0"?)---this is circled with black line in attached
bmp file.
There is some values between "SEQUENCE (OF)" and "Length".Our question is as
follows.
Q1) Is "82" unique value when TRAP is sent?(That is, are there also unique value
in this place
when GetRequest or GetResponse or SetRequest are sent?)
Q2) Is there any meanings in "00"?
Q3) From our analysis, "C8" is correct "Length" of SNMP message. But if above
Q1) is correct,
we think that manager of SNMP(NMS) may thinks that "Length" is equal to "00"
because "00" appears
just after the unique value,"82".If it is correct, this may be the reason that
NMS does not work well.
I'm sorry to bother you but please kindly tell us anything about above question.
