The problem is probably that the version of libpcap with which Ethereal
was linked doesn't support Token Ring on HP-UX 11.0.

Try using tcpdump, linked with the *exact same* version of libpcap; if
it also can't sniff Token Ring, then the problem is with libpcap.

In that case, please send mail to tcpdump-workers@xxxxxxxxxxx,
indicating which version of libpcap you're using, where you got that
version, and what the symptoms are, in detail ("doesn't work" is not
enough detail to allow us to figure out what the problem is "doesn't
start running, and prints the error message XXX", where "XXX" is the
error message it prints, is probably enough detail, and "starts
running without complaints, but doesn't see any traffic" is closer to
enough detail than is "doesn't work").

By the way, note that binary packages of Ethereal - the latest version,
0.8.20, not an old version such as 0.8.16.1:

	http://hpux.connect.org.uk/hppd/hpux/Gtk/Applications/ethereal-0.8.20/

and the latest version of libpcap, 0.6.2:

	http://hpux.connect.org.uk/hppd/hpux/Networking/Admin/libpcap-0.6.2/

as well as the latest version of tcpdump, 3.6.2:

	http://hpux.connect.org.uk/hppd/hpux/Networking/Admin/tcpdump-3.6.2/

are available from the HP-UX Porting and Archive Centre.

You might want to try installing that version of libpcap, first, and
then try installing that version of Ethereal, and see what happens.
