IP-address-to-host-name resolution on Windows sucking, because it falls
back on NetBIOS-over-TCP if DNS doesn't work, and that involves sending
a packet to the IP address and waiting either for a reply or a timeout,
and if the machine in question isn't running NetBIOS-over-TCP (e.g.,
most non-Windows machines), you get no reply, so every new name
resolution takes a Really Long Time and Ethereal is completely stuck
while waiting for the reply?

Try disabling network name resolution in the "Capture Preferences"
dialog box popped up when you select "Start" from the "Capture" menu; if
that fixes the problem, select "Preferences" from the "Edit" menu, and
click the "Save" button, which will remember the name resolution setting
so Ethereal will default to no name resolution on subsequent captures.
