Hi Simon,
It is pitiful.
The "customized preference file" which I mentioned is
c:\.ethereal\preferences
that is edited manually (capture.prom_mode is changed into TRUE).
This file will be created, if menu "Edit - Preferences..." is chosen and
Save
button is pushed in a dialog. You know, Ethereal 0.8.18 is not promiscuous
mode by the default. So capture.prom_mode must be FALSE if Save is selected
in the state of a default. In my environment, it solved by setting this to
TRUE and restarting Ethereal.
You said your environment has already TRUE, so I think you did it update
from
the front version? It seems that our situation is differed from if it does
not work as for capture.prom_mode = TRUE.
Thanks for the pointers. However, I do have a problem - how do I get to a
custom preference file? I can't see anything offered in the Ethereal
software to change the path of the preference file, and nothing in the
docs
of how to change that location and create an own preference file. I just
see the default "preferences" file in c:\.ethereal, can't find any
ethereal.conf file as mentioned in the docs.
In the default preference file the option you mentioned
(capture.prom_mode)
is set to TRUE.
I tried to force this option set via the command line (-o option), no
success.
Can you give me a description of how to generate the custom preferences
file under Windows that you mentioned?
Simon
