I've been trying to install ehtereal-0.8.17-1 from an RPM to a RedHat 7.1 system. The
RPM will not install and complains that "libsnmp.so.0" is needed by ethereal. I'm
using the command: "rpm -ivh ethereal-0.8.17-1.i386.rpm". I've added "--force" but I
get the same complaint from RPM (I thought "force" meant FORCE; silly me).
I have "ucd-snmp-4.2-12" already installed (in RedHat 7.1); "ld.so.conf" appears to be
accurate (I re-ran ldconfig just to make sure everything was up-to-date).
Executing "/sbin/ldconfig -p|grep -i snmp" produces the following:
libsnmp.so.0.4.2 (libc6) => /usr/lib/libsnmp.so.0.4.2
libsnmp.so.0 (libc6) => /usr/lib/libsnmp.so.0
libsnmp.so (libc6) => /usr/lib/libsnmp.so
libsnmp-0.4.2.so (libc6) => /usr/lib/libsnmp-0.4.2.so
It appears to me that I have the file that the RPM is complaining about me missing.
Does anyone have a clue to what's going on here?

Chris Curran
