I have installed Winpcap 2.1, and the ethereal-setup-0.8.17.exe file from the web page on Windows 2000 pro, sp1.  Short captures, 20 minutes to an hour, work ok.  If I leave the ethereal running for several hours, such as overnight, and then try and stop the capture, (via the stop button), a dos windows opens up over the gui with an error: "Diameter: Bad Packet: Bad Flags or Versions".  When I close that windows Ethereal shuts down all of its processes and closes.  When I reopen it, and try to load the capture file in, I get the same error and the program closes again.  I can do short captures after this.

I am guessing these are corrupted files - is there another way to edit them?
What can I do differently to affect why this is happening.

Thanks for your work, however, it is showing me just what I wanted to see.
