Hello,

We have an office LAN using Lucent 802.11 equipment. We are concerned that our neighbours can sniff our local traffic using such tools as ethereal. I have been told by the vendor that this is possible, however when I try it myself, I do see traffic however it is all garbage. We are not using the encryption in the cards as the performance drops considerably on our local network.

Management has decided to leave encryption off for performance reasons even though the vendor says this traffic can be intercepted and decoded. Do I need a special plugin for Ethereal to be able to read the frames correctly? I have tried so far with the Win32 version and am planning on trying it with the Linux version too.

Thanks in advance,

Ron V.
