Or, rather, the *kernel* of the OS is Linux 2.2.14; the full OS is more
than just the kernel - which version of which distribution are you
running, and are you using the libpcap that came with the OS, or some
other version?

If Ethereal, tcpdump, and ntop have the same problem, it's probably a
problem with code used by all three of them...

...namely libpcap.

I'd suggest sending mail to tcpdump-workers@xxxxxxxxxxx about the
problem.  Give all the details you mentioned above, as well as the
answers to the questions asked in the first paragraph of mine above (the
fact that the host and port don't work means it's not something as
simple as a problem caused by the MAC addresses being or not being
bit-swapped).
