I *infer* from the reference to ".DLL" that you're trying to get this
working on some flavor of Windows. Reports of problems should include
the OS and type of machine on which you're trying to get Ethereal
running; it runs on a wide range of operating systems, and in order to
figure out what's causing a problem we might have to know on what OS and
machine you're trying to run it.
You presumably downloaded the binary from
http://ethereal.zing.org/distribution/win32/
As that page says:
With either package, you need to install the GTK libs for Win32.
As of Ethereal version 0.8.9, the 20000416 version of GTK+ for
Win32 has been used. You can download the libraries from the
GIMP/Win32 site, or use the zip file of DLL's supplied below.
GLib is one of the libraries to which "GTK libs" refers, so you should
download the Zip file that by clicking on "zip file of DLL's" on that
page, and then unpack that Zip file into the same directory into which
you unpacked Ethereal.
