The newer IBM PCI TR cards (the olympic chipset) can go into promiscuous mode,
at least on Windows. I have never used the linux driver, so I don't know
if it supports promiscuous mode. You should ask the folks on the linux-tr
mailing list.

The old shared-memory IBM TR cards (using the "ibmtr" driver) would *not*
go into promiscuous mode. I don't know what ifconfig showed, that is, whether
it lied about promiscuity or not.

Madge and Olicom cards *do* go into promiscuous mode.
