Yes, if the column is sized correctly (is changed as the width of the
data field changes, and is as large as the data within), then the
horizontal scroll bar will accurately change as the size of the column
changes.  However, if we set the column width based on the title (fairly
short), then you could have a really long text string in the column but
not be able to scroll over to see it (we need to let GTK+ know about the
width).
