I assumed that this is the case...

I'm aware of the license discussion, but on the other hand I think
it might not be the best to use two different libraries for the
same purpose.

So would it make more sense to use only one lib for that purpose?
At least in the long term.

Do not get me wrong. I'm not against or for using a particular lib,
but I would prefer using only one lib instead of both.

What to others think?

No, other parts still need it (I think the kerberos and the net-snmp
stuff do), but I'm not 100% sure. I'll investigate later.
